The group was formed as a forum for photographers who love the medium of black and white to meet, show their work, and disseminate information on their craft. Following the sad demise of the Northwest Monochrome Group some years ago, no similar facility has existed within North Wales.
I put the idea of a group to several Monochrome workers whom I met at other functions, and was delighted at the huge amount of interest that was expressed. Consequently, we held our first meeting, at which some 20 people attended.
One of my primary objectives was, and will continue to be, informality. Having a pathological hatred of committees etc. I have taken on the responsibility of booking the location and notifying members of meetings. By so doing, I have tried to ensure that those attending the meetings can relax and show their work without being involved in the sort of politics that plague other clubs and organisations.
We regularly have between 25 and 30+ members attending, not all of whom show work, but all are true lovers of monochrome photography. Our members range in expertise from absolute beginners to very advanced workers. Both traditional darkroom and digital techniques are welcome
.
We meet in the Community Hall near the Tyn-y-Coed hotel, Capel Curig (on the A5 from Betws-y-Coed, it has a stagecoach outside) starting at 2pm. Bar lunches and alcoholic drinks are available at the hotel, and tea /coffee at halftime. The only cost is £1.50 for the tea or coffee.
If you would like to be notified of future meetings, please e-mail me at glmonochrome#homecall.co.uk or ring on 01745 730714.
We would very much like you to visit us, and you will be assured of a warm welcome. Hopefully you will both learn and contribute.
Our next Meeting is Sunday 4th January in the Community Centre, Capel Curig. There is a "nosh & natter" session from around 12.30 for those who want to bring a packed lunch and have an informal chat, then the Meeting proper starts 2pm
