YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO THE

PAGB PRINT CHAMPIONSHIP 2008
Sponsored by BPD Photech & Permajet Ltd.

The Club Print Championship will be held at
Deeside College Connahs Quay in Flintshire on
Saturday 25th October 2008 starting at 10.00 a.m.

Deeside College is located in Connahs Quay just off the A548 - come over the bridge, not through the town - and is only a few miles from Chester. Access is very easy from the Midlands and the North and there is abundant accommodation in the area if you want to make a weekend of it. This year we will again occupy the new sports hall with much improved facilities.

We “video-project” the prints on to two large screens so that you will be able to see some of the very best prints, colour and monochrome, from all over the UK. (Most observers at previous championships have commented favourably on the quality and diversity of the photographs).

You may be able to pay on the day but we now have fewer seats and it is possible that admission will be limited to pre-booked & paid tickets only. All ticket applications will be serviced in order of receipt except that 8 tickets will be reserved for each Club until 1st October. Wheel chairs are welcome although a little advance notice will allow us to book a parking space, etc.

The booking form should be completed and returned with cheques, payable to PAGB, plus a stamped addressed DL size envelope or an additional 35p.

Judging Seminar.

On March 9th , a Judging Seminar was held at the Community Centre in Capel Curig. To try and recruit some new Judges which we are in need of in our area, as they seem to be on the decline.

The meeting started at approximately 10 o’clock, and was well attended by 30 members of various North Wales Clubs.

Sigrun Tollerton started the meeting by giving a talk on the way that she judges the various competitions at the clubs visited by her during the season.

Kevin Hurst then followed, telling us his way of looking at images, and the way that he judges them and awards placings or points

.

Andy Polakowski finished the morning session with a talk, and some of his Black and White Dark room prints to illustrate some of the finer points of his style of judging.

The afternoon session started with The Dragon, SORRY, Margaret Salisbury, giving us a very entertaining talk on her way of judging, on the day preferably, once again illustrated with quite a large amount of her prints.

Sigrun , then gave us all a challenge. We all had to judge various prints, and give them marks out of 5. Margaret, Kevin and Andy had to do the same, so we could see how the marks differed. The results were interesting.

A few members then got up in front of the room to judge a couple of pictures in front of the group, to get a feel of how it would be on a Club night. As a first attempt they did very well too.

As the afternoon drew to a close, I took quite a number of names and e-mail addresses, so I could then send the appropriate form , to apply to be a Judge.

So far I have had 5 replies to be Judges, with 3 of those also wanting to be Lecturers as well.

Your Clubs will have been given the new names to add to your Directory, so during the next season if you book them, please be kind to them.

Eifion Williams.

Judges and Lecturers Secretary.
